Sheep neglected during transport Perth, WA (AU)Incident Date: Tuesday, Oct 21, 2008
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: » Ryan Geoffrey Etherton » Geoffrey Trevor Etherton
Two men will plead not guilty in Perth Magistrates Court next year to mistreating three Merino ewes allegedly delivered unfit for sale to the Midland Sales Yard.
RSPCA lawyer Sue Taylor today brought one charge of treating an animal contrary to the Animal Welfare Act against Ryan Geoffrey Etherton and Geoffrey Trevor Etherton.
The RSPCA alleges the three ewes were delivered to the yard in a condition that resulted in them being destroyed by sale yard staff.
The association alleges a further 10 sheep were destroyed a day later.
Ms Taylor said she would call four witnesses when a full-day trial commenced in Perth Magistrates Court on March 16 next year.
She will allege the two men were cruel to the three ewes, because the sheep suffered harm that could have been alleviated by taking reasonable steps.
Defence lawyer Jeremy Noble told Magistrate Robert Lawrence the men would plead not guilty.
Mr Noble said he would call two witnesses. References
