Dog abandoned, starved, tied to doghouse Crestview, FL (US)Incident Date: Tuesday, Sep 9, 2008 County: Okaloosa
Charges: Misdemeanor Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: man
Authorities say a man abandoned a pit bull, leaving it starving and tied to a dog house until his landlord reported it.
The 30-year-old man is charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty or neglect.
His dog was emaciated and in critical condition in September when the landlord complained to Okaloosa Animal Services, according to the Sheriff's Office. When investigators arrived at the Ferdon Boulevard residence, the chocolate-colored male was too weak to stand or bark, they said.
The suspect told animal control officers he didn't own the animal but had been taking care of it for two months - it belonged to his girlfriend's uncle.
Officers took the dog to a veterinarian at the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society's clinic. It had intestinal parasites, she said.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 2. References« FL State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Okaloosa County, FL
