Rock icon and former Playboy Bunny Dale Bozzio has been charged with animal cruelty in Ossipee.
The police say a dozen cats had to be put down after being found in Bozzio's home. They say Bozzio has pleaded not guilty to three misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and will be charged with nine more.
Bozzio fronted the 1980s band Missing Persons and performed with rocker Frank Zappa. She still tours and released a solo album this year.
Her manager, Joe Nelson, said Bozzio had left the cats in the care of a friend. Nelson said Bozzio is a well-known animal lover. Her website has a link to the SPCA and says she has cats to give to good homes in the Boston-N.H. area.
Case UpdatesFormer Missing Persons vocalist Dale Bozzio has turned herself into a New Hampshire prison to serve time after pleading guilty to several cases of animal cruelty.
The singer, known best for hits such as "Walking in LA," "Destination Unknown" and "Words," was charged last year with the crime after local authorities found several sick and dead cats inside of her home. After the discovery, 12 cats had to be euthanized and Bozzio was forced to pay the hefty $2700 bill.
During her grueling trial in May, the singer’s lawyer claimed the crime was a case of negligence, and not of bad intentions. However, Bozzio, previously known for being an animal lover and rescuer, is now barred from keeping any pets at all. The vocalist will be serving 90 days behind bars, and is also sentenced to 250 hours of community service. | Source: Limewire Music Blog - Nov 13, 2009 Update posted on Nov 15, 2009 - 2:07AM |

Bozzio had pleaded not guilty to several misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty. She was convicted of one count last week. The judge wrote prosecutors' decision not to specifically identify each dead animal in the formal charges proved "fatal" for all but one charge.
The 54-year-old singer is expected to be sentenced next week in District Court for Southern Carroll County. She faces up to a year in jail and a $2,000 fine. | Source: Seattle Times - March 19, 2009 Update posted on Mar 19, 2009 - 10:11AM |
