Dog dragged behind pickup truck, euthanized
Suffield, CT (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Oct 26, 2008
County: Hartford

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Brian J. Moson

A Springfield animal hospital desperately tried to save the life of a dog that had been dragged behind a pick up truck Sunday night. Police say the driver did not know, because he was drunk.

"It is gut-wrenching, wouldn't want that to happen to anything, let alone a dog," said one Suffield resident.

Residents on River Boulevard in Suffield are troubled, thinking about the dog that was tied to a truck and dragged until he was near dead.

Suffield police say Sunday night, 35 year old Brian Moson tied his Australian Shepard to the back of his pick-up truck. Moson spoke at his home in Suffield, explaining that he forgot about the dog and drove away in the truck. About a mile down the road, someone spotted the dog being dragged on a leash and called police.

"He was stopped and officers discovered that a badly injured dog was in the rear bed of the truck," said Suffield Police Chief Michael Manzi.

Police say the dog was so severely injured he had to be put down. Moson failed sobriety tests and is being charged with cruelty to animals and operating under the influence. He will be in Enfield Superior Court in November.
