A dog was found in a clothes dryer in San Marcos on Wednesday morning.

Waugh said it happened at 1250 Sadler Drive and involved a three-year-old miniature Pinscher.

Waugh said the dog belonged to one of four male roommates who share an apartment and laundry facilities. He said the dog was let in from a balcony around 6:30 a.m. because it was barking. Around three hours later, one of the roommates woke the dog's owner to tell him he thought the dog was dead.

He said the person that found the dog said he looked in the dryer because he smelled something funny.

"Animal control officers are investigating along with the San Marcos PD," he said. If the case is confirmed as animal cruelty, detectives in the Criminal Investigations Division will take over.

A local veterinarian is performing a necropsy.
