The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office is investigating allegations of animal cruelty in the Stapleton community.
Deputies received a call from a concerned neighbor that 3 boxer bulldogs had not been fed or watered for a period of about 3 weeks at 36180 CR 39 in Stapleton.
Upon arrival, deputies found 3 dogs at the residence. 2 of the dogs were outside and 1 inside the residence. One of the dogs had a cable wrapped around both back legs and one the legs had begun to rot off. The dog inside was so malnourished it was unable to stand on its own. That dog was taken immediately to a vet by a family member of the suspect in this case. The other two were taken to animal control.
Deputies are currently investigating the circumstances around this case. Charges are expected to be filed soon. The name of the suspect has not been released at this time.
Case UpdatesThe owner of three dogs found abandoned and starving in a Stapleton mobile home was charged with animal cruelty after turning himself in to Baldwin County authorities today, according to a Sheriff's Office spokesman.
Michael Blackmon, 29, was charged with three counts of animal cruelty, Maj. Anthony Lowery, Civil Division commander, said.
