The Humane Society of Greater Rochester was called to assist the Humane Society of Wayne County on October 9 in the seizure of a variety of animals from home in Sodus. Stemming from complaints of loose horses in the area and a call from a veterinarian, the agencies teamed up to rescue the large number of animals being kept in unsanitary conditions. The house and the outside property were littered with urine and feces.
In total, 24 dogs, 11 horses, a goat, ducks, chickens, cats, rabbits, and chinchillas were all found living in poor conditions and were removed by the collaborating agencies. Cruelty charges and child endangerment charges from Wayne County are pending against the owner, 45-year-old Shelia M. Bastian.
The Humane Society of Great Rochester took in three chickens, three ducks, and 18 dogs, 15 of which are Bassett Hound puppies around 10 weeks of age, along with a Chihuahua and her two very young puppies. References« NY State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Wayne County, NY
