The Law Enforcement Department of the Humane Society of Greater Rochester arrested 63-year-old Derryll A. Packer, of Maple Ridge Road in Medina, on October 8. Packer is charged with animal cruelty for keeping 23 dogs in poor living conditions.
Responding to an anonymous call to the Humane Society Animal Cruelty Hotline, cruelty investigators observed conditions in Packer's house and garage that were a threat to the health of the dogs living there. Urine and feces were found throughout the structures.
The dogs, Dachshunds and Chihuahuas of various ages, were signed over to the custody of the Humane Society. The Humane Society Chief Veterinarian examined the dogs and determined that the animals were all suffering from severe dental problems.
Packer is scheduled to appear in town of Ridgeway Court on October 23. The misdemeanor animal cruelty charge could lead to a sentence of one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. References« NY State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Orleans County, NY
