County: Cleburne

Disposition: Not Charged

Abuser names unreleased

A Quitman man recently surrendered four horses being kept at his property in Quitman.

The horses were extremely emaciated; one was so bad it took two people to get it to it's feet. The Virginia L. Harrison Animal Shelter's main concern was to get the horses to safety and provide care. The owner resides in Conway and we were afraid he was going to move the horses.

In an effort to do what was best for the animals, the shelter decided to make him a deal; if he turned over the horses, no charges would be pressed. His excuse was that they were babies out on pasture and he hasn't been watching them.

The owner had an additional 12 horses that were in fair condition. He agreed to get a coggins test on the additional horses, which is required by law. The additional 12 horses will be watched carefully.

The Virginia L. Harrison Animal Shelter is asking the public for help in anyway possible. They have set up a horse fund to start saving money for horses when they come into the organization. They are in desperate need of a stock trailer.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges. Charges referenced in the original case report may be modified throughout the course of the investigation or trial, so case updates, when available, should always be considered the most accurate reflection of charges.
