Cockfighting Junction City, WI (US)Incident Date: Thursday, Oct 2, 2008 County: Portage
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: man
The investigation into a possible cockfighting operation is underway in Portage County. Authorities say there's evidence that roosters found at a farm just outside of Junction City were used for fighting.
Yesterday they seized thirteen roosters, two hens, four dogs and three cats.
All of the animals were turned over to the Portage County Humane Society, which will continue to care for them during the investigation.
Detectives say cases like this one can sometimes be difficult to handle.
Detective Gary Koehmstedt of the Portage County Sheriff's Department says, "What's fine maybe in different cultures, here it's illegal so you have that barrier."
Deputies also arrested a 23-year-old man at the home on a probation violation.
The Humane Society received a tip which prompted the Sheriff's Department to look into the matter. References |
