more information on voting
When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.
Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "Peoples Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isnt enough.

Two dying cats seized, 3 kittens dead Vanier, ON (CA)Incident Date: Monday, Aug 4, 2008
Disposition: Convicted
Defendant/Suspect: Jamie-Lee Frizell
Case Updates: 1 update(s) available
A Vanier woman faces two charges of animal cruelty after five cats in her possession were found either dying or dead in July and August this summer.
Investigators from the Ottawa Humane Society charged Jamie-Lee Frizell, 30, on Wednesday [Oct 1, 2008].
Two adult cats seized by society agents at a Vanier apartment on separate occasions were in such poor condition that they had to be euthanized. As well, three kittens were found dead in the same apartment.
Frizell will appear in court on Nov. 11 charged with two counts of animal cruelty under the Criminal Code of Canada, for causing unnecessary pain and suffering to an animal, and for failing to provide suitable and adequate care to the same animal.
She faces a maximum penalty of a $10,000 fine and five years in prison, but it's rare to have the maximum sentence handed out.
Case UpdatesA 32-year-old woman who admitted to abandoning a mother cat and two kittens in her apartment - where they starved - along with trafficking crack, was sentenced to 73 days of time served Wednesday.
But Jamie Lee Frizell called it "crazy" that she was banned from owning, caring for or even living with an animal for five years.
"Like if I have a roommate that has a cat?" she complained from the prisoner's box.
"That's crazy."
Frizell left the animals in her Emond St. apartment after she was evicted in July 2008.
Discovered by Ottawa Humane Society agents in August, the emaciated mother cat was barely alive and had to be euthanized. The kittens were dead.
Defense lawyer Bob Carew said that Frizell had returned to the apartment to feed the cats but was charged with being unlawfully in a dwelling.
Frizell also pleaded guilty to passing $40 worth of crack to a man who then sold it to an undercover cop at the same apartment in April 2008, and failing to appear in court.
She was sentenced to 16 months probation and 30 hours of community service on top of the jail time. | Source: ottawasun.com - Feb 24, 2010 Update posted on May 19, 2011 - 11:31AM |
