Police horse struck
Gainesville, FL (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Oct 5, 2008
County: Alachua

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Luis Angel Sifuentes

A Gainesville man was arrested early Sunday for hitting a police horse, an action that could have hurt a number of people.

Luis Angel Sifuentes, 38, of 2448 NW 54th Blvd., was arrested and charged with striking a police animal. The incident happened at 2 a.m. in the 100 block of SW 1st Street. Police horses had been dispatched to the area to help clear a large crowd so that the street could be re-opened to cars.

According to police, Sifuentes made a fist with his right hand and hit the horse. The unexpected blow caused the horse "to lunge forward into the crowd," according to Sifuentes' arrest record. Police said no one was injured, but the potential existed for people to be hurt by a startled animal.

After being booked into the Alachua County Jail, officials realized Sifuentes was wanted for a federal violation and he was being held without bond on Sunday night.
