Two dogs neglected, infested with maggots
Brockport, NY (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Jul 6, 1997
County: Monroe

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged:
» Denis P. Stone
» Mary M. Stone

The parents of four children found in a house littered with trash, swamped with sewage and infested with maggots were arraigned on child endangerment charges.

Denis and Mary Stone were arrested after returning from a vacation. Police, called to the house by a neighbor who was upset by the persistent barking of a dog, discovered the children -- a 10-year-old daughter, 8-year-old twins and a 3-year-old son.

Two dogs were found tied up in the basement, and a dead cat was found in the back yard. The Stones have also charged with three counts of animal cruelty.

A judge released the couple, ordering them to return to court in August. The children were remanded back to the parents' custody.
