Horse disembowled, cat mutilated
Wichita, KS (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Sep 24, 2008
County: Sedgwick

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Kim Allen's 10-year-old daughter made the discovery. "She came in hysterical. I ran out there to see the horse had been disemboweled. He had been cut one side to the other-his intestines hanging out," says Allen.

The horse, a miniature named Spirit, was found in the middle of his corral. It appears someone cut him open in the middle of the night.

"There are no other wounds on this horse expect for the incision across its belly."

Allen also found her cat dead, bleeding from the head with something shoved down its throat.

"I worked in the ER, I was a medic I know what a head injury looks like. It had blood coming out of its ear it had a depressed skull fracture."

Neighbors in the area are worried. They too have animals and that's why they called us.

In the past three months, Allen has found four other animals dead outside of her home including a cat, a rabbit and two dogs.

Police tell Eyewitness News they are investigating. The case is labeled a vandalism but will likely change to animal cruelty which is a felony in Kansas.
