Bloody paw prints across the back patio marked the path to the body of Isa, a 3-year-old terrier mix, apparently slain Monday by a burglar at a Southwest Miami-Dade County home.
Isa's body had been tossed over the fence, and the killer had drawn a smiley face on an outdoor shed with the words: ''I had fun! You b----. Ha ha ha!'' The telephone wires had been cut to the home in the 14300 block of Southwest 109th Court.
Now, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals hopes a $2,500 reward will lead to the killer of the pet.
Kenia Molina made the discovery when she returned home Monday afternoon. Her husband, Duglas Chaver, believes the dog had dragged itself to the home's back door, seeking protection.
''There was blood everywhere,'' Chaver said Thursday night. "You could tell my dog walked up to the back sliding door... looking to see if one of us was inside.''
Isa belonged to the couple's 7-year-old son.
''They just came and assassinated this dog,'' he said. ``They beat her to death.''
The Miami-Dade police report details the grim scene:
Kenia Molina found bloody paw prints going across the back patio and found the shed door open. Inside the shed, there was more blood, and tools had been removed and placed outside the shed.
The dog's bed and collar had been tossed aside.
It was not clear exactly how the dog died, and police provided no motive.
''Animal abusers are cowards,'' PETA director Martin Mersereau said in a statement. ``They take their issues out on the most defenseless beings available to them.''
Whoever killed the dog would face charges of burglary and animal cruelty. References« FL State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Miami-Dade County, FL
