Forty dogs seized, kennel own charged
Auburndale, FL (US)

Incident Date: Monday, Sep 1, 2008
County: Polk

Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Patricia Cooper

Sheriff's deputies are investigating the mistreatment of at least 40 dogs in the Auburndale area.

Animal Control Officers responded to Pat's K-9 Kennels on Dairy Road. Investigators say they found the dogs in various states of health ranging from good to dirty with matted hair.

Veterinarians say they need to take a closer look at the dogs that range in breeds from Yorkshire Terriers to Chihuahuas and Dachshunds. Deputies say Patricia Cooper, the owner of Pat's K-9 Kennels, could not provide any recent medical or vaccination documentation for the dogs.

Cooper faces misdemeanor animal cruelty charges. The dogs were transported to the Polk County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Facility in Winter Haven for medical treatment.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges. Charges referenced in the original case report may be modified throughout the course of the investigation or trial, so case updates, when available, should always be considered the most accurate reflection of charges.
