A homeless woman who was arrested and taken to jail left her pregnant dog roped to a tree for three days, authorities say.

Pamela Ostromecki, 55, left her dog, Tasha, tied up at a wooded homeless camp near the intersection of Mango Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, according to an arrest report.

Ostromecki, jailed on Aug. 18, did not tell officers that Tasha was alone in the woods. The woman was charged with burglary and has been held in the Sarasota County jail since then.

Animal control officers found the dog on Aug. 21, lashed to a palm tree and covered in mud. A veterinarian who examined the dog said Tasha was almost full term in her pregnancy and was not getting adequate medical care.

The dog is at an animal shelter, while Ostromecki remains jailed and is now also facing an animal neglect charge.
