Denton police are investigating a case of animal cruelty that stemmed from a domestic disturbance call Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded to the call in the 2100 block of James Street about 4:10 p.m. A couple was fighting over their property, according to the police report. The man directed the officers� attention to his dog, which had an injury on its head.

The man said the woman hit the dog with a stick just to spite him.

The woman admitted hitting the dog but said she was defending herself because the man was urging the dog to attack her, according to the report. The investigation is ongoing.
