Pit bull neglected, infested with fleas
Corpus Christi, TX (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Aug 17, 2008
County: Nueces

Disposition: Not Charged

Abuser names unreleased

What came in as a simple phone call to the Kiii-TV newsroom about one dog in trouble, has turned a case of animal neglect.

Corpus Christi may now have to seize several animals after Kiii News uncovered cased of neglect, in a neighborhood, near the city hall.

City Animal Control Officer Joaquin Galan said, "She's undernourished. She is very thin, full of fleas, too many fleas and looks like she has a little bit of mange but it could be because of the poor nutrition and the fleas put together."

Galan finally collared this pitbull and knew immediately she's going to need better care. The dog was in this yard at 1511 Mestina along with another pitbull. Neither had food or water until this animal care service officer arrived and gave them something to eat and drink.

After he was finished he left a warning notice on the door of the homeowner. They will have 24 hours to get in touch with the city about the dogs or else.

Galan said, "If they don't we can try to push to get a seizure warrant and take the dogs due to neglect."

All of this is happening, just a few blocks down from city hall.
