Costanza is accused of luring his estranged wife's cats, named Ozzie and Buddy, to the family swimming pool with food and then drowning them.  Costanza wore heavy, long gloves to protect himself, while he held each of the cats under water until they stopped breathing.  A third cat survived.

The cats had been adopted from the Humane Society by Costanza and his former wife, Patricia Preu.

Costanza, plead no contest to 2 animal cruelty charges, a third degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison on each count.

Costanza has a history of domestic violence.  His former wife has a restraining order against him and fears his release from jail.
