Hoarding - 46 rabbits, 3 cats, 10 birds
Newstead, NY (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Jul 30, 2008
County: Erie

Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Joanne Lizauckas

A Newstead woman was charged Friday with misdemeanor animal cruelty after SPCA investigators found dozens of rabbits and other animals living in squalid conditions at the woman's property on Stage Road.

The suspect, Joanne Lizauckas, 41, is scheduled to appear in Newstead Town Court on Aug. 13 at 7 p. m.

Lizauckas surrendered to the SPCA her rights to the 46 rabbits, three cats and 10 birds that had been rounded up at her home Wednesday. On Friday, she also gave them another rabbit, a cat and some pet fish.

Two of the rabbits have since died. Another two baby rabbits were found dead at the property on Wednesday.

Next week, the animals that are deemed healthy will be put up for adoption.
