Police entered the house, looking for a wanted man. Instead they found 15 pit bulls, 2 were so battered and covered with gaping wounds that they had to be euthanized.

"They had lacerations all over, and one of them ws so skinny she could barely stand up, The other had an infection in his ear from a wound that was not properly taken care of. It reeked" stated Animal Services Officer Arlene Beauchene.

Authorities believe the dogs are most likely evidence of an undergound dog fighting ring. Jim Varn, Director of Hernando County Animal Services, stated "We've been told a lot of abandoned apartments and homes in south Brooksville are used for fights. But its' extremely difficult to catch them in the act".

Authorities are still searching for the owner of the dogs. If they find the man, he will face animal cruelty charges. Officials do not have enough evidence to charge him under the state's Animal Fighting Act.
