Maggie, a Jack Russell-pit bull mix, is recovering from injuries in what appears to be dog-fighting.
Workers at the Harbor Humane Society thought she may have been hit by a car, but discovered Maggie had bit marks over 60% of her body.
She's recovered and needs a place to live. Maggie will need both basic and obedience training, and some socialization as Humane Society officials believe she was used as a bait dog.
Case UpdatesMaggie is a Pit Bull Terrier mix that animal control picked up as a stray, but workers at the Harbor Humane Society think that she might have been used as a bait dog for a dog fighting ring.
Jennifer Van Hill from the Harbor Humane Society explains that "they chain them to where they can't move and they just leave them there and most of them die. The fact that we got her was a miracle by itself." Van Hill says it's also a miracle that Maggie survived.
Van Hill told Newschannel 3 that when Maggie first arrived at the Harbor Humane Society she had incredibly severe wounds, including bite marks so deep they could see bone in her legs.
Now, after surgery, Maggie is doing fine and ready to be adopted. She'll always have scars, but her battle wounds won't hold down her endearing spirit.
Van Hill says that just because she's a Pitt Bull doesn't mean she isn't just a sweet as any other dog can be.
If you'd like to adopt Maggie or any of the other amazing animals at the Harbor Human Society, all that information is available on their website, http://www.harborhumane.org | Source: WWMT - Aug 7, 2008 Update posted on Aug 7, 2008 - 6:46PM |
