Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Fernandez Nestor
Nestor Fernandez the owner of a deer farm located in Erin, Ontario, has been charged with cruelty to animals when dozens of dead and dying deer were found on his property last summer.
Approximately 180 deer were found alive but many were very ill and several died within two weeks after being removed from the deer farm. There were about 35 deer carcasses found last July by the investigators for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The society's investigator said he had never seen anything like it before even though there were several deer farms in Ontario.
The number of deer registered to be on the farm at one time was 500 deer. There are now only 20 on the farm which is located south of Orangeville and they are being cared for by an agent of the owner.
On Jan 5, Nestor Fernandez is scheduled to be in court charged with failure to provide adequate food, water and shelter for the deer on his property.
