Kitten killed, woman assaulted
Longmont, CO (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Jul 29, 2008
County: Weld

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Jorge Orozco-Silva

A man was arrested Tuesday night on multiple charges after police say he beat and choked his common-law-wife and killed a kitten.

Jorge Orozco-Silva is in police custody Wednesday and is facing charges of attempted second-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping, assault in the second degree, menacing, aggravated cruelty to animals and domestic violence.

Orozco-Silva's common-law-wife, Terry Latham, tried multiple times to escape his abuse Tuesday night, according to the Longmont Police Department.

Latham ended up at Longmont United Hospital Tuesday night after Orozco-Silva beat her, choked her several times and told her he was going to kill her, according to police. Latham told police she believed she was going to die and temporarily lost consciousness.

Police say when she first tried to escape she was caught and assaulted again by Orozo-Silva. During her final attempt to escape she was nearly caught but managed to make it to a nearby fire station where an ambulance took her to the hospital, according to police.

Further police investigation shows Orozco-Silva also killed a kitten as a means of controlling Latham. Detectives say they have evidence of this crime and are waiting for additional documents from a veterinarian.

Orozco-Silva remains at the Weld County Jail.
