Disposition: Not Charged
Person of Interest: Marvin L. Dampf
Marvin L. Dampf, 47, owner of 68 dogs was in the Tulsa County jail serving a four month sentence for contempt of court. Dampf was in prison for failing to pay child support from a 1985 divorce case.
While Dampf was in prison serving his sentence, he asked friends to care for his dogs. The friends realized they needed help with the care of the 68 dogs and contacted the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
When the authorities arrived at the two bedroom home, they found 68 dogs of varying ages and breeds. The dogs were found to be in fairly good condition. One puppy was found dead in the house, remainder of the puppies in the litter were undernourished.
The humane society took 25 of the dogs and rescue societies for various breeds took other dogs. Some of the dogs were purebred and some were mixed breeds.
Bob Whitely, assistant director of animal control, said 16 of the dogs were euthanized because of overcrowding at the animal shelter or because of specific health issues.
Dampf "relinquished ownership" of his dogs to the city. References- The Oklahoman, Oklahoma City - Dec 18, 2002
