Four cats gutted, mutilated
Dallas, TX (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Jul 17, 2008
County: Denton

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

The SPCA of Texas is posting a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator(s) who allegedly tortured and killed cats this week in Northeast Dallas near Lovers and Skillman. The reward was made possible by The Murrell Foundation.

Four cats have been found on the same eight-block stretch of Ridgelawn Drive in recent weeks that have been basically sliced open and gutted.

Certain acts of animal cruelty-such as torturing or seriously injuring an animal-are now classified as a felony and subject to up to two years in jail and a $10,000 fine. These particular cases are currently active investigations by the Dallas Police Department.

Additionally, this type of behavior has proven to be indicative of deep-rooted psychological problems. Several studies conducted by national experts and a myriad of social care agencies have identified a direct correlation between animal abuse and later incidences of domestic violence, often referred to as the LINK between animal abuse and domestic violence. Jeffrey Dahmer and the infamous serial killer "Son of Sam" both committed violent acts of animal abuse during childhood.

Any person or persons with information should contact the SPCA of Texas at 214-742-SPCA (7722) or online at www.spca.org/abuse. In fact, the SPCA of Texas urges anyone who witnesses any suspected animal cruelty or abuse to report the information to www.spca.org/abuse.
