Employees at the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) in Barrie arrived to a sad sight on the shelter's door step, yesterday morning.
Someone had left a dead 12-year-old male Australian shepherd wrapped in a blanket with a note from its anonymous owner attached to the door.
The note pleaded the owner's case, saying the animal was always treated as family, but the single parent had struggled financially.
The note indicated that when the dog began having bloody stool and his health quickly deteriorated, the owner didn't have any choice but to watch him die and then dropped the dog's body off at the shelter to spare her children the sight of it.
"This is an unfortunate case of possible neglect" said Melissa Bainbridge, spokeswoman for the Barrie OSPCA. "As a family member, you would hope that someone would take you to a doctor if you were ill.
"We can only hope that the dog didn't suffer long." References
