45 Animals removed from mobile home

Alleged: Myrtle Janet Dunham

State police and animal welfare volunteers removed 16 cats, 5 dogs and 24 birds from the mobile home owned by Myrtle Janet Dunham. Myrtle Dunham, 71, has been charged with failure to provide sustenance, resisting arrest and endangering the welfare of an incompetent person. Dunham's son who is in his 40s is mentally impaired. He was not charged.

It was reported some of the animals were kept in filthy cages, the trailer floor was thick with bird seed, pet food, feathers and feces.

Dunham has been released on her own recognizance after she was arraigned before Justice Siegford Krahforst.

The animals removed by the New York Humane Association and Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society were taken to area shelters.
