Dog fed broken glass
Connellsville, PA (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Jul 13, 2008
County: Fayette

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Fayette County humane officials are offering a reward to help catch someone who fed crushed glass to a dog in Connellsville.

The dog is recovering, but had to have stitches in his tongue and suffered a collapsed lung. The 4-year-old mixed breed named Scooter will be susceptible to emphysema and other problems due to the lung injuries, humane officials said.

Early last Sunday morning, Maryanne Stall, of Connellsville woke up to find Scooter covered in blood. She said she took the dog to a vet, who found small bits of glass lodged in the dog's throat and intestines.

"He said his lung had collapsed and was filled with blood. He had a 2-inch gash under his tongue," said Stall.

"If he was a cat, he would have just lost seven of his nine lives," said veterinarian John O'Laughlin.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.

"He deserves justice. He wasn't doing anything to anybody," said Stall.
