40 sick and malnourished dogs seized
Porter, TX (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Mar 24, 1998
County: Montgomery

Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Ian Evans

Animal control officer, Jim Blount, was informed of the 40 sick and malnourished dogs on Tues., March 24, when Harris County authorities said federal officers with a warrant for Ian Evans had visited his home in Montgomery County. Officers had left a note at Evans' home after responding to a complaint that dogs were wandering off the property. The officers could not go onto the property at that time because they did not have a warrant and they couldn't see any dogs running loose from the road.

The 32 dogs and eight puppies of mixed breeds were all seized from the four acre property owned by Ian Evans at the end of Andrew Lane off FM 1314 on the east side of Montgomery County.

Ian Evans is an illegal immigrant from Wales. He is wanted on a federal warrant accusing him of tampering with immigration documents.

After the authorities seized 40 sick and malnourished dogs from the residence near Porter, they also found dead birds and a decomposed dog in a nonworking freezer at the unoccupied house. The dogs were free to roam in and out of the house whenever they wanted because a sliding glass door had been left open.

Blount said, "The dogs were roaming all over the place and were scared to death. We put some feed in the house and some outbuildings and were able to coax them."

Criminal charges alleging cruelty to animals has been filed on Evans in prior cases that are still pending. As a result of the seizure of forty dogs, there will be additional charges filed.

The dogs seized from the property have been handed over to the Houston branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
