Dog found wounded and emaciated
Albany, NY (US)

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

A dog is recovering at a local Humane Society, found emaciated and wounded on the streets of Albany.

A tan and white pitbull mix was found on Sheridan Ave. Friday afternoon in Albany. He was brought to the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society by Albany Animal Control.

Workers say the dog is nothing but skin and bones and has a severe wound around his neck from a chain collar that was too small. The shelter's vet says the injury has been there for well over a month.

But those close to the breed say this dog can bounce back. Cydney Cross, of Out of the Pits Rescue, works with rescuing and placing Pitbulls. Although Out of the Pits defines itself as a rescue organization (they have successfully placed hundreds of dogs), their main focus is on public education. Many of the abused dogs they have placed have gone on to pass behavior and agility tests, many become therapy dogs.

Police are now looking for the dog's owner so cruelty charges can be filed.
