When animal control officer Greg Papaevangelou arrived at the Van Vleet home he found a broken leash, broken flower pot and blood splattered across the side of the mobile home.
Van Vleet had allgedly thrown a dog into the yard by its neck and then proceeded to kick and punch her. He struck the dog in the face with a tin can then bound her head with a towel and rope. He then reportedly hoisted the dog up off its front paws by a rope, then slammed the dog's body a few times into a tree.
The dog was taken into custody and to a shelter for recuperation and then will be put up for adoption. The dog is a female 5-year-old black shepherd and chow mix, very friendly and well-mannered. She suffered injuries to her head and eye, but should make a complete recovery.
Criminal charges have been filed against Van Vleet, who lives along Honeysuckle Trail in the Pleasant Valley Mobile Home Park. References | Northwest Indiana News |
