Officials are asking for the public's help locating whoever may be responsible for intentionally drowning a dog found dead in the Cedar River on July 4.
King County Animal Care and Control said black and white female pit bull was found in deep, fast moving water with a homemade anchor tied around its neck with a rope.
A fisherman pulled the dog's body from the river and a veterinarian determined that the dog may have been alive before being submerged in the river.
The anchor was a gas can filled with cement.
The dog's body was found near the Landsburg Bridge in the 25200 block of Landsburg Road Southeast.
"This is a horrific and tragic case," King County Animal Care and Control Communications Specialist Nancy McKenney said in a statement.
"We need more information from the community to help find those responsible for this needless death."
Investigators said the dog did not have any previous injuries.
The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $2,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the person responsible for drowning the dog.
