Using a chainsaw to kill a mother raccoon

Officials of the Humane Society claim Johns unnecessarily killed the raccoon, the mother of 6 newborn kits.

Johns was trimming trees in the 2700 block of Martha St.  Johns confronted the raccoon, asked a neighbor for a gun.  When he was handed a pellet riffle, Johns shot the raccoon out of the tree and as it laid stunned on the ground, ut it up with his chainsaw.

The orphaned kits were retrieved by Highland police and turned over toa wildlife rehabilitationalist certified by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
