Puppy beaten to death, another abandoned
Clearwater, FL (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Jun 29, 2008
County: Pinellas

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Clearwater Police are investigating who killed a dog that was found in a parking lot Sunday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Laura Spellman, some children discovered two mixed breed puppies that had been abandoned in the parking lot at 1384 Pierce Street around 12:30pm Sunday.

One of the dogs had been killed. The other puppy is being taken care of by the SPCA in Largo. Spokeswoman Marissa Segundo says the deceased dog had suffered extreme head trauma and had a gash on its leg.

A bowl with food was found with the dogs, Spellman said. They believe the dogs were abandoned some time between 10:30 am and 12:30pm.

SPCA officials confirmed this is a case of animal abuse. They believe the dog was intentionally harmed, and do not believe it had been hit by a car.

They are unsure whether the person who abandoned the dogs had anything to do with it's death.
