Abusing horses
Crete, IN (US)

Incident Date: Friday, May 29, 1992
County: Randolph

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Scott Henning

Henning was charged with one count of cruelty to animals and one count of failure to dispose of a dead animal properly.

2 horses were found dead at the family farm on Elms Court Lane. A 3rd horse, named Nikki, was alive but severely malnourished and 300 pounds underweight.

Hennings mother discovered the 3 horses. She notified volunteers at the Hooved Animals Humane Society, based in McHenry County. Hennings moved away from the farm about 1 month prior and had stopped caring for the horses. The surviving quarter horse and 1 dead horse were found in a locked barn. The 3rd horse had been dragged out to the middle of a cornfield and covered with a blanket. It had been dead for nearly 5 months.

The surviving horse was transferred to a foster farm in Monee, where she will stay until she is healthy enough to be put up for adoption. The HS say the horse is likely to recover. The normal weight for a full-grown horse is 1000 pounds.
