The Nebraska Humane Society is offering a $1,000 reward for information about the person who attacked a cat with fireworks.

Chrystal Castillo said her husband found her cat, Tom, on the family porch Wednesday morning with burns on his face.

"I took a look at him and his mouth was all burnt and looked like someone had shoved a firework in his mouth because it blew out his tooth," Castillo said.

She said Tom's claws had also been worn down.

"His nails are all grinded down from where he was trying to dig out of something. Like somebody had put him in something," she said.

Castillo took Tom to a veterinarian, who confirmed her suspicions that fireworks were involved. The cat also had burns to his tail and genital region.

"I was horrified," she said. "I can't imagine someone doing something like that to an animal. It's beyond cruelty to me."

Castillo said Tom is getting tender loving care from his family and is already trying to get up and walk around. "He'll get through it," she said.
