Denise Thorpe filed charges against her former fiance John Akers for a Class A misdemeanor in the shooting and beating of a stray dog that Thorpe had been feeding.
Akers told the neighbors to put their kids inside and then shot the dog. The dog known as Blond Dog ran onto a porch, Akers beat the dog with a shovel as several kids watched. He then threw the dog onto some railroad tracks behind Thorpe's home. The dog turned up 2 days later at Thorpe's home, battered with an eye hanging loose.
Dr. Richard Katz of the Glen Park Animal Hospital had to remove the eye in surgery. Thorpe said she found a lump in Blond Dog's throat, on the left side, that may be a bullet.
Thorpe was supposed to marry Akers on May 22, 1992 but when she heard from neighbors what had happened to the dog she booted him out of the house. References | Northwest Indiana News |
