Two men from southeast B.C. are facing charges of animal cruelty after allegedly kicking and beating a cat to death.

Bradley Hillman and William Tanner will make their first court appearance Thursday in the community of Sparwood, B.C.

Eric Enkirch of the B.C. SPCA says witnesses saw two men attacking a black cat on April 27.

He says the animal suffered extensive injuries, including broken teeth and a fractured upper jaw.

The cause of death was a blunt force trauma to the head.

If found guilty, the men face a maximum fine of $10,000, up to five years in jail and a prohibition on owning animals.
