Hoarding - 58 dogs, 20 cats seized
Miami, FL (US)

Incident Date: Monday, Jun 16, 2008
County: Miami-Dade

Charges: Misdemeanor, Felony CTA
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Beverly Prady

North Miami Police seized 58 dogs and 20 cats after receiving a tip that more than 20 animals were living inside a home; what they found inside is being classified by some as the worst case of animal abuse they've seen.

North Miami Police Chief Clint Shannon said animal control officers responded to the home at 990 NE 139th St. and found "dozens and dozens" of animals in deplorable conditions. At least one dog was found dead at the home. Other animals, officials say, were missing limbs.

"I feel angry and sad," said North Miami Chief Animal Control Officer Tami Fox. "This is just outright animal neglect."

North Miami Mayor Kevin Burns says he's outright horrified by what he saw.

"The floor of the house is completely rotted away," said Mayor Kevin Burns. "There are animals in cages, there are animals that are dying; they can't move their hind legs."

The owner of the home is cooperating with police, and will face several charges, including felony animal cruelty.

"To me I've always given and taken the best care that I can," said owner Beverly Prady.

When asked by CBS4's Peter D'Oench why she had so many animals living there, she attributed it to some of the animals not being neutered or spayed.

"It's one of the worst animal abuse cases I've ever seen in my life," said Burns.

The home is expected to be condmend and police will be back out there Tuesday morning to remove three dogs they weren't able to take out Monday.
