Police dog beaten with flashlight
Naples, FL (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Jun 5, 2008
County: Collier

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Stephen Christopher McCool

Collier County sheriff's deputies arrested an East Naples man after they say he fled a robbery at Davis Boulevard and Airport-Pulling Road on Thursday.

Reports say Stephen Christopher McCool, 40, of 2000 Airport-Pulling Road, was struggling with a deputy and had taken the deputy's flashlight away and was using it to strike the deputy's dog.

The dog had a hold on McCool's pants leg, according to reports.

Reports say a deputy struck McCool two or three times on his left side after he refused to show his hands for arrest.

McCool was treated at the scene by EMS and then transported to a Naples hospital, where he received more extensive treatment for his injuries.

Then he was released into the custody of deputies.

McCool was charged with using a deadly weapon on a police animal, resisting arrest with violence and obstructing an officer.
