Deputies found a 2-year-old beagle buried up to its snout in East Palatka Monday. Putnam County Animal Services is investigating it as an animal cruelty case.
According to a report from the sheriff's office, investigators went to 104 East River Road after hearing a dog yelping behind the property. A deputy found a dog buried in a corner of a pen with the ground around the animal patted down. A wire fence was also laid flat over the dog, a white and brown spotted beagle.
The deputy dug the dog out and the animal proved to be uninjured, the report said.
He noted the dog was positioned vertically as if it had been lowered into the hole.
The report said three other dogs were in the pen. There was no food available and three buckets were filled with green water. Not far from the dog pen, the deputy found what appeared to be a canine's jawbone near a shooting target.
The report was forwarded to Animal Control. References« FL State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Putnam County, FL
