Dog poisoned with Temik Maxton, NC (US)Incident Date: Tuesday, Feb 12, 2008 County: Robeson
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Robert Earl Smith
A Maxton man was charged Tuesday with animal cruelty after authorities determined a dog had been poisoned with a pesticide.
Lawmen received a complaint in February that Robert Earl Smith, 53, of the 100 block of Azalea Court had put out chicken scraps contaminated with a poisonous substance. A dog consumed the chicken and was later taken to X-Way Road Animal Hospital.
The dog was treated for poisoning and later released to its owner, said Capt. Tammy Deese of the Maxton Police Department.
A piece of the chicken was sent to Rollins Laboratory in Raleigh for testing, where it was determined it contained Temik, a pesticide.
Lawmen are investigating other complaints of animal poisoning.
Smith's bail was set at $5,000. References« NC State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Robeson County, NC
