Dog locked in hot car Scottsdale, AZ (US)Incident Date: Thursday, May 29, 2008 County: Maricopa
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Ryan Walker
A Scottsdale police officer broke a car window to rescue a small dog, which he feared would die in the nearly 100-degree heat.
Officer Chris Watson noticed the dog alone in the vehicle at 11:30 a.m. Sunday while on a call in the 4400 block of North 78th Street, according to a police report obtained Tuesday.
The officer decided to break a window to gain entry to the car after observing that the dog was breathing heavily and was possibly in danger of dying from heat exposure, the report said.
Watson brought the dog into the air-conditioned police car and gave it cold water after removing it from the vehicle, the report said.
Police later arrested 19-year-old Ryan Walker of Chandler on suspicion of animal cruelty.
Police said that Walker told them he did not intend to hurt the dog, the report said.
On hot days, the temperature inside a parked car in direct sunlight can rise more than 30 degrees per minute, according the Humane Society of the United States. References« AZ State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Maricopa County, AZ
