Andrew J. Castor, age 14, allegedly grabbed his neighbor's cat that was setting in a chair on their porch, put him in his book pack, then took the cat to a canal where he kicked the cat in the stomach and head then tossed it over to an alligator that was in the canal.  When asked why he did it, he "stated, I wanted to see what the alligator would do".

The state attorney's has not decided what charges to pursue or whether Castor would be tried as an adult. Castor's father said his son deeply regretted his actions and has been crying for the last several days over the incident.

The cat had been a pet in the neighbors family for over twelve years. Castor was charged with animal cruelty and making a false statement to the police. The cruelty to animals charge is a third-degree felony, since it invloves a cruel death or an excessive infliction of unnecessary pain or suffering.  If tried as an adult he could receive up to 5 years in jail/prison and a $10,000 fine.
