Puppy thrown at girl Central Islip, NY (US)Incident Date: Sunday, May 11, 2008 County: Suffolk
Charges: Misdemeanor Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Cesar A. Moloche
Authorities say a Central Islip man lashed out in a fit of rage with an unusual weapon: He threw a small dog at a little girl, striking her in the face and hurting both her and the animal.
Now, Cesar A. Moloche, 32, of 48 E. Cedar St. faces a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge - in addition to the endangering the welfare of a child charge he already faced stemming from the May 11 incident.
"He picked up a small dog and threw it at the young girl," said Chief Roy Gross of the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
"It hit her in the face and the dog yelped in pain, obviously, and it was enough to charge him with the animal cruelty charge," Gross added. "If he would have caused more physical injury or death [to the dog], he would have been charged with a felony."
Officials have not identified the girl or explained her relationship to Moloche, but Suffolk police arrested Moloche on May 11, charging him with endangering the welfare of a child.
He was arraigned May 12 in First District Court in Central Islip and is due back in court May 30, said Bob Clifford, spokesman for Suffolk District Attorney Tom Spota.
Neither Moloche nor his attorney at the Legal Aid Society could be reached to comment.
Gross, who said the dog was being cared for by its family, declined to identify who Moloche threw the dog at or to reveal who owns the dog.
"The bottom line is that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County," Gross said. "Hopefully, this will send a strong message that, before you act in that type of manner, think about the consequences."
SSPCA officials charged Moloche with animal cruelty Sunday and issued him an appearance ticket. He is due in court on July 1 on the animal cruelty charge. References« NY State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Suffolk County, NY
