May 6 saw Salmo resident Gordon Powell make his first appearance in the Nelson Courthouse on animal cruelty charges.
On February 7, the BC SPCA executed a search warrant to seize the body of a dead horse after being contacted by the RCMP.
The horse was taken to a veterinarian to have a necropsy performed on it.
"The veterinarian's report indicated that the horse was extremely emaciated," said BC SPCA Special Const. Eric Enkirch.
Powell's next court date is June 3 in Nelson.
If convicted on the cruelty charges, he could receive up to six months in jail, a maximum fine of $2,000 and a prohibition on owning animals for a time determined by the judge. References
