Dogs poisoned
Forest Hill, VIC (AU)

Incident Date: Monday, Apr 21, 2008

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Police are investigating whether two dogs were deliberately poisoned while playing in their Forest Hill back yard.

Owner Paul Allen is devastated by the death of his dogs, Moby and Quattro, who, he believes, died after poisoned dog biscuits were thrown over his fence.

Moby and Quattro were playing at 5am on April 21 when Mr Allen left his home for work.

But by the time his wife, Huong, got home later that day, kelpie collie Moby was dead and Jack Russell cross Quattro was in the last hours of his life.

Quattro died three hours after Moby.

"I was an absolute mess when my wife told me," Mr Allen said.

His home security system includes a surveillance camera aimed at his back yard, which he said captured the dogs' demise. "If you watch the tape you can see they didn't die from natural causes," Mr Allen said.

Nunawading police have confirmed the dogs were poisoned and are waiting for the results of a pathology test to confirm what substance killed the dogs.

Mr Allen suspects dog biscuits with poison attached were thrown over his back fence and his dogs ate them.

"The biggest thing for me was that my 18-month-old daughter was playing with the dogs that morning when they ate the poison," Mr Allen said.

"It could have been her."

Sen-Sgt Mal McDonagh said police were investigating the deaths.

"We know that complaints had been made to council about the dogs barking," Sen-Sgt McDonagh said.
