Injured dog seized, fighting suspected

Police discovered a Pit Bull dog with massive trauma to its body inside a car during a routine traffic stop last week.
On Sunday, April 27, at approximately 1:50 p.m., Commander Mannino observed a vehicle traveling westbound on Norwood Blvd. from Western Avenue. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and failed to properly signal before turning south on Norwood Blvd., according to police.
Mannino initiated a traffic stop and observed a black female Pit Bull dog inside the car. Both of the dog's ears were missing. All that remained of the ears was torn and jagged skin which was bloody, according to police. It also had numerous lacerations to its body, including deep lacerations to its legs. The dog appeared to be in extremely poor condition, according to police.
The driver related that he was on his way back from Harvey where he had been attempting to breed the dog, but the dog he was breeding it with attacked his dog. Commander Mannino observed what appeared to be blood on the driver's jeans.
Commander Mannino contacted Community Service Officer Tracy Gibson. Gibson responded to the scene and spoke with the driver who agreed to voluntarily sign an Owner Relinquished Form, giving the Park Forest Police Department custody of the dog.
Gibson advised Commander Mannino that she has taken dogs from the driver in the past, and further advised that the nature of the injuries to the dog were consistent with dog fighting. Upon examining the dog, she related that the dog was not in heat and would not be able to breed at this time.
Gibson took custody of the dog and transported it to Forest South Animal Hospital after taking digital photographs of its injuries.
The driver was released from a traffic stop pending further investigation. References
